Two very well-known additions to the Ulster Tower site were Big Boy and Wee Girl – the Ulster Tower cats.
Both had arrived at the Ulster Tower as wild cats abandoned by their mother so Teddy Colligan the Custodian of the Tower had started to feed them and a long friendship started. Gradually they settled into life at the Tower and could be seen lying around outside the cafe sunbathing or just looking a bit of attention from our many visitors.
Over the years they became part of the Somme Association and were cared for by many of our staff and volunteers.
Sadly, in June 2021 within days of each other both went to sleep after nearly 20 years of service.
