The Centenary 2016

On the 1st July 2016 a Service of Commemoration was held in the grounds of the Ulster Tower.  In attendance was HRH The Prince of Wales, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, TRH’s The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester along with Sir Julian King, HM Ambassador, The Rt. Hon. Theresa Villiers MP, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Arlene Foster MLA, First Minister of Northern Ireland, Heather Humphreys TD, Minister for the Arts and the Gaeltacht and Monsieur Jean-Marc Todeschini, Secretaire D’état, France.

The Service of Commemoration started with a Call to Worship that said:

“Friends, we are come together in the presence of Almighty God to offer unto Him our worship, praise, and thanksgiving, to remember proudly all those soldiers from Ulster who in the great Battle of the Somme, one hundred years ago , fought a good fight, kept the faith and finished their course in this life. Wherefore, remembering God’s presence with us now, let us praise and thank Him for the gallantry and resolute courage of all those who fought in the Battle of the Somme”
