
To mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme the 5th (Volunteer) Battalion, Royal Irish Rangers, raised the funds among the regiment and the friends of the regiment, for a new memorial in honour of the 9 members of the 36th (Ulster) Division who were awarded the Victoria Cross. The fund raising was co-ordinated by Major R J Walker MBE.
The VC Memorial made in Mourne granite, was unveiled by HRH the Duke of Kent and is a lasting testament to their glorious deeds.
